  • An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Advisory Assistant Manager to join the established Business Advisory practice of a leading Top 10 national accounting and advisory firm in Melbourne.
  • This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant looking to step up to Assistant Manager, or an existing Assistant Manager seeking to further develop their career within a large and highly regarded professional services firm.
  • The role combines financial reporting, taxation compliance, tax planning and broader business advisory work, together with increasing responsibility for client relationships, engagement management and the supervision and development of junior professionals.

The Role

Working closely with Managers and Partners, your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing financial statements in accordance with current accounting and reporting standards
  • Reviewing income tax returns for individuals, companies, partnerships, trusts and superannuation funds
  • Reviewing workpapers and ensuring appropriate supporting evidence and documentation is maintained
  • Identifying, researching and resolving complex accounting and taxation issues
  • Analysing management accounting reports and providing commercial and financial advice to clients
  • Delivering more complex tax planning and taxation advice
  • Developing a strong understanding of clients’ businesses, industries and broader commercial environments
  • Providing clients with practical business and taxation advice based on their commercial circumstances
  • Managing workflow across client engagements and ensuring assignments are completed accurately and within agreed timeframes
  • Developing direct relationships with business owners, executives and other key client stakeholders
  • Preparing for and participating in client meetings with Managers and Partners
  • Reviewing the work of Senior Accountants, Accountants and other junior team members
  • Coaching, mentoring and assisting with the professional development of junior professionals
  • Communicating with Managers and Partners regarding workflow, client matters and team performance
  • Sharing technical knowledge, best practices and relevant industry and market developments across the team
  • Working collaboratively with specialists across the broader firm where required

About You

The position would suit an experienced Senior Accountant ready to progress to Assistant Manager, or an existing Assistant Manager from a Big 4, mid-tier, national or reputable boutique accounting firm.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Approximately 4–5 years of professional services/public practice accounting experience
  • Strong experience across business advisory, accounting and taxation
  • Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements
  • Strong Australian income tax compliance and advisory experience
  • Experience reviewing income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships, individuals and superannuation funds
  • Experience identifying and resolving more complex accounting and taxation matters
  • Exposure to tax planning and broader business advisory work
  • Experience analysing management accounts and providing advice to clients
  • Strong understanding of accounting and financial reporting standards
  • The ability to independently manage client assignments and competing deadlines
  • Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience reviewing the work of junior professionals
  • The ability to coach, mentor and develop junior team members
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work
  • The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a collaborative team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong commitment to continuing professional development

You will have a Business or Commerce degree with an Accounting major and have completed CA or an equivalent professional qualification.

Previous experience managing or supervising a team would be highly regarded.
