An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Audit Manager or Senior Manager to join the highly regarded Private Clients practice of a leading Big 4 professional services firm in Sydney.
This is an excellent opportunity within one of Australia’s largest Private Clients practices, working with privately owned businesses, significant family groups, high-net-worth clients and growing private companies across a diverse range of industries.
The role combines the management of complex audit and assurance engagements with senior client relationship management, technical oversight, team leadership and the opportunity to work closely with experienced Partners and Directors across a major national Private Clients practice.
The Role
Working closely with Partners, Directors and other senior audit professionals, your responsibilities will include:
- Managing external audit and assurance engagements for privately owned businesses, family groups and other significant private clients
- Managing a portfolio of audit clients across a diverse range of industries
- Taking responsibility for the planning, execution and completion of audit engagements
- Acting as a key point of contact for business owners, boards, CFOs, finance executives and other senior client stakeholders
- Managing audit quality, technical standards, engagement risk and client deliverables
- Reviewing financial statements and assessing compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and relevant financial reporting requirements
- Providing technical guidance on complex accounting, financial reporting and audit matters
- Identifying significant audit risks and developing appropriate audit strategies and procedures
- Reviewing audit workpapers and ensuring engagements are completed to a high technical standard
- Understanding clients’ businesses, ownership structures, commercial operations and broader financial reporting requirements
- Developing strong and enduring relationships with existing clients
- Identifying opportunities to provide additional audit, assurance and advisory services to clients
- Supporting Partners and Directors with business development initiatives and the continued growth of the Private Clients practice
- Managing engagement budgets, workflow, resources, profitability and deadlines
- Working collaboratively with Private Clients Tax, Deals and other specialists to provide clients with access to broader expertise where appropriate
- Leading, coaching and developing Assistant Managers, Senior Accountants and other audit professionals
- Providing regular feedback, technical training and career development support to junior team members
- Contributing to the development of high-performing audit teams and the broader success of the Private Clients practice
About You
The position would suit an experienced Audit Manager or Senior Manager, or potentially a highly regarded Assistant Manager ready to progress to Manager, from a Big 4, mid-tier or other leading accounting firm.
Ideally, you will have:
- Strong external audit and assurance experience within a Big 4, mid-tier or other leading accounting firm
- Experience auditing privately owned businesses, family groups and/or other substantial private clients
- Strong technical knowledge of Australian Auditing Standards and Australian Accounting Standards
- Experience managing external audit engagements from planning through to completion
- Experience reviewing financial statements and complex audit workpapers
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, accounting standards, audit methodology and risk management
- Experience managing multiple audit engagements and competing client deadlines
- A strong understanding of the commercial and financial reporting issues facing privately owned and growing businesses
- Experience developing relationships with business owners, CFOs, finance executives and other senior stakeholders
- Strong client relationship management and communication skills
- The ability to identify client needs and contribute to business development opportunities
- Experience managing engagement budgets, resources and commercial outcomes
- Strong organisational, project management and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience reviewing, coaching and developing junior audit professionals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work collaboratively with Partners, Directors and other professionals across the firm
A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or Business, together with CA or CPA qualification, would be expected.
