Business Advisory Manager | Top 10 National Accounting Firm | Melbourne

  • My client is a leading top 10 National Accounting firm based in Melbourne, with an established Business Advisory practice servicing a diverse portfolio of privately owned businesses, high net wealth individuals and corporate clients.
  • I am looking for an experienced Business Advisory Manager who is ready to take ownership of a client portfolio, manage and develop junior staff and work closely with Partners in providing high-quality accounting, taxation and commercial advisory services.
  • This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Manager, or an ambitious Assistant Manager ready to step up, who is looking for greater client responsibility, leadership opportunities and long-term career progression within a highly regarded professional services firm.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Partners, you will manage a portfolio of clients and a team of professional staff. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the workflow of the team and communicating regularly with Partners regarding client matters, deadlines and priorities.
  • Reviewing work papers and ensuring appropriate supporting evidence and documentation is maintained.
  • Reviewing financial statements prepared in accordance with current accounting and reporting standards.
  • Reviewing income tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships and superannuation funds.
  • Providing complex tax planning and structuring advice to clients.
  • Advising clients on practical, commercial and financial issues and developing solutions that genuinely add value to their businesses.
  • Developing and analysing financial models and management accounting reports.
  • Identifying, researching and resolving complex accounting and taxation issues.
  • Developing a strong understanding of each client’s business, industry and competitive environment.
  • Taking a longer-term perspective on clients’ industries and identifying potential commercial opportunities and risks.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and acting as a trusted adviser.
  • Reviewing the work of junior team members and providing technical guidance, coaching and support.
  • Managing, mentoring and developing junior staff and contributing to the overall capability of the team.
  • Sharing technical knowledge, best practices and relevant industry and market developments across the team.
  • Ensuring client information is accurately recorded and processed through the firm’s systems.
  • Contributing to business development and the continued growth of the practice.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Approximately 5–7 years’ experience in Business Advisory, Business Services or Private Clients within professional practice.
  • A Business or Commerce degree with an Accounting major.
  • CA qualification or equivalent.
  • Previous experience managing, supervising and developing professional staff.
  • Strong Australian taxation and financial reporting knowledge.
  • Experience reviewing financial statements, income tax returns and complex client work.
  • The ability to provide practical and commercially focused advice rather than simply compliance services.
  • Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines.
  • The ability to work autonomously while also contributing effectively within a collaborative team.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional and technical development.
  • Business development exposure would be highly regarded.
