  • An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Advisory Senior Accountant to join the established Business Advisory practice of a leading Top 10 national accounting and advisory firm in Melbourne.
  • This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Intermediate Accountant looking to step up to Senior Accountant, or an existing Senior Accountant seeking to join a larger and more established professional services firm with strong career progression opportunities.
  • The role provides exposure to a diverse portfolio of privately owned businesses, family groups, high-net-worth individuals and SME clients, combining financial and tax compliance with broader business and taxation advisory work.

The Role

Working closely with Partners, Managers and experienced Business Advisory professionals, your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing financial statements and management accounts for privately owned businesses and other clients
  • Preparing income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
  • Providing taxation advice across income tax, GST, capital gains tax and FBT
  • Assisting with more complex accounting and taxation matters
  • Providing general business, accounting and taxation advisory support to clients
  • Managing compliance requirements across a portfolio of private business and family group clients
  • Assisting clients with taxation planning and other year-end matters
  • Developing a strong understanding of clients’ businesses, structures and financial objectives
  • Preparing for and participating in client meetings alongside Partners and Managers
  • Developing direct relationships with business owners, executives and other key client stakeholders
  • Managing assignments and ensuring work is completed accurately and within agreed timeframes
  • Reviewing and assisting with the work of junior accountants and graduates
  • Coaching, mentoring and supporting the development of junior team members
  • Working closely with Partners, Managers and specialists across the broader firm where required

About You

The position would suit an experienced Intermediate Accountant ready to progress to Senior Accountant, or an existing Senior Accountant from a Big 4, mid-tier, national or reputable boutique accounting firm.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Approximately 3–5 years of public practice accounting experience
  • Experience working with privately owned businesses, family groups, high-net-worth individuals and/or SME clients
  • Strong experience preparing financial statements and income tax returns
  • Experience across companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
  • Sound technical knowledge of Australian income tax
  • Experience across GST, capital gains tax and FBT
  • The ability to assist with more complex accounting and taxation matters
  • Exposure to business and taxation advisory work
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality work
  • The ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities and deadlines
  • Strong client relationship and communication skills
  • An interest in developing greater client-facing and advisory responsibilities
  • The ability to assist with coaching and developing junior accountants and graduates
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

You will have a Business or Commerce degree with an Accounting major and ideally be CA or CPA qualified, or currently progressing towards completion.
