Restructuring & Insolvency (Front-End) Senior Associate, International law firm, Sydney

Market-leading mandates | Creditor-side focus | High-profile restructurings

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a Senior Associate (5–7 years’ PAE) to join the restructuring and insolvency practice of a leading international law firm in Sydney.

You will work closely with a highly regarded partner with over 20 years’ experience advising on many of Australia’s most significant and complex restructuring and insolvency matters. The practice is particularly recognised for its strength in acting on large-scale, high-stakes situations involving major creditor groups, offshore funds and financially distressed companies.

This role offers a genuine front-end focus, working on complex restructurings, workouts and strategic advisory mandates rather than purely formal insolvency processes.

The Role

You will work on a broad range of restructuring and insolvency matters, including:

  • Complex financial restructurings and workouts
  • Distressed M&A and recapitalisations
  • Strategic advisory work for creditors and investors
  • Cross-border insolvency and restructuring matters
  • Formal insolvency processes (as required)

Recent matters have included acting on some of Australia’s most high-profile restructures and insolvencies, involving major airlines, energy companies, retail groups and financial institutions.

The Practice

The team acts for:

  • Major creditor groups and banking syndicates
  • Offshore funds with significant debt positions
  • Financial institutions and investment banks
  • Companies in financial distress
  • Insolvency practitioners (administrators, liquidators, receivers)

Work spans a broad range of sectors including energy and resources, construction, infrastructure, financial services, retail, media and telecommunications.

About You

  • 5–7 years’ PAE in restructuring & insolvency or banking & finance with exposure to distressed situations
  • Experience in front-end restructuring, workouts or complex insolvency matters
  • Strong technical, analytical and drafting skills
  • Commercially minded with the ability to navigate high-pressure situations
  • Experience dealing with creditors, lenders or financial sponsors (highly regarded)

Why This Role?

  • Top-of-market remuneration
  • International secondment opportunities (New York, London, Paris)
  • No fixed billable hours
  • Exposure to market-leading, high-profile restructurings
  • Strong creditor-side and cross-border focus
  • Clear progression pathway within a leading international platform
